Introducing Metamodel-Based Global Calibration of Material-Specific Simulation Parameters for Discrete Element Method

چکیده

An important prerequisite for the generation of realistic material behavior with Discrete Element Method (DEM) is correct determination material-specific simulation parameters. Usually, this done in a process called calibration. One main disadvantage classical calibration fact that it non-learning approach. This means knowledge about functional relationship between parameters and responses does not evolve over time, number necessary simulations per sequence respectively investigated stays same. To overcome these shortcomings, new method Metamodel-based Global Calibration (MBGC) introduced. Instead performing expensive runs taking several minutes to hours MBGC uses metamodel which can be computed fractions second search an optimal parameter set. The was trained data from hundred able predict dependence given set very high accuracy. ensure usability wide variety bulk materials, variance particle size distributions (PSD) included via parametric PSD-functions, whose serve as additional input values metamodel.

Design of Simulation Strategy for Corn Cleaningon Discrete Element Method

The past efforts made on the corn cleaning dynamics were reviewed. Based on Discrete Element Method model, a simulation method for corn cleaning dynamics was then proposed, composing the following design factors: 1. 2-D discrete model and its related factors; 2. parities and magnitude of computation, consideration of the two factors upon application; 3. test platform design. The implementation ...

Back-calculation of mechanical parameters of shell and balls materials from discrete element method simulations

Discrete Element Method (DEM) is extensively used for mathematical modeling and simulating the behavior of discrete discs and discrete spheres in two and three dimensional space, respectively. Prediction of particles flow regime, power draw and kinetic energy for a laboratory or an industrial mill is possible by DEM simulation. In this article, a new approach was used to assess the main paramet...

Evaluation of Fracture Parameters by Coupling the Edge-Based Smoothed Finite Element Method and the Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method

This paper presents a technique to evaluate the fracture parameters by combining the edge based smoothed finite element method (ESFEM) and the scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM). A semi-analytical solution is sought in the region close to the vicinity of the crack tip using the SBFEM, whilst, the ESFEM is used for the rest of the domain. As both methods satisfy the partition of unity...
